VitalConnect
Wireless Remote Patient Monitoring

While a hospital is indeed a safe place to be for patients suffering from a severe condition, a nurse who manually checks their vital signs is typically the only way they are monitored. Even in the most care-intensive environments, a lot can happen in the eight hours, or so that time elapsed between spot checks. It’s also too easy for healthcare professionals to lose insight into a patient’s condition once they leave the hospital. From the time a patient is discharged until the next appointment at the hospital, can be crucial. As patients go about their daily lives, healthcare providers need real-time and continuous monitoring to know at all times, from anywhere, how their patients are faring, and potentially predict deterioration of health conditions before they ever happen. Based in San Jose, CA, VitalConnect’s focus is on helping healthcare organizations to remain “always connected” with their patients, leveraging real-time connectivity and instant feedback to provide an immediate response if required. VitalConnect is a leader in wearable biosensor technology for wireless patient monitoring in both hospital and remote patient populations.

VitalConnect provides a solution in four principal market segments: hospital monitoring, post-discharge monitoring, remote patient monitoring, and clinical trials. VitalConnect’s products, the Vista Solution platform, and VitalPatch biosensor are designed for use in a broad range of inpatient and outpatient settings, such as hospital monitoring, post-discharge care, cardiac monitoring, and pharmaceutical solutions. The Vista Solution platform is an end-to-end solution that enables constant and unprecedented insight into patient health. It is a single, connected system that brings together a wireless biosensor, secure cloud storage, analytics, and convenient, web-enabled interfaces to revolutionize caregiver efficiency.

As the foundation of the Vista Solution platform, the VitalPatch biosensor is as smart as it is compact. The lightweight, comfortable design ensures compliance for monitoring around the clock and across care settings.

It is worn discretely on the upper chest of the patient and monitors eight physiological measurements, real-time. Data continuously streams via BTLE to a VistaPoint mobile device; caregivers can stay connected to patients when they need it most. Additionally, the VitalPatch is water-resistant and disposable.

The VistaCenter application allows monitoring multiple patients simultaneously for early warning score, fall detection, and care prioritization. Continuous monitoring improves patient oversight beyond routine spot checks and enables hospital staff to provide better care and faster intervention. Caregivers can assess real-time patient status, as well as review vital sign trends. The seamless integration of actionable data to a user-friendly interface leads to timely analysis and empowers clinicians to intervene immediately if necessary, helping save lives, while also saving time and money.

The Vista Solution platform brings data-driven care up to date with personalized medicine. With the Smart Notifications Suite (heart rate, respiration rate, vital sign high/low combinations, fall detection), a patient’s clinical condition is known in real-time, and early intervention saves lives. Using clinically proven predictive EWS3 analytics, caregivers can intervene with treatment sometimes days in advance of a serious event. The Vista Solution allows clinicians to remotely monitor patients regardless of where the patient is being cared for — within the hospital or from the comfort of their own home. Caregivers can identify patients who need follow-up or additional care – intervening before decline becomes severe, which may improve recovery time and reduce hospital readmissions.

“Biometric monitoring is increasingly critical within the hospital and post-discharge in home settings and VitalConnect’s technology can help improve patient care with real-time patient monitoring and engagement,” says Peter Van Haur, CEO of VitalConnect. Recently, VitalConnect introduced Vista Solution 2.0, ushering in the next generation of healthcare where specific health outcomes can be diagnosed through National Early Warning Scores (NEWS). The Vista Solution 2.0 will include the addition of blood pressure, weight scale, and pulse oximetry via 3rd party devices, and core temperature to the existing eight vital sign measurements monitored by the VitalPatch biosensor (single-lead EKG, heart rate, heart rate variability, body posture, respiratory rate, skin temperature, fall detection, and activity steps). With the amalgamation of NEWS standard, Vista Solution 2.0 will enhance a physician’s access to information about a patient’s condition around the clock with clinically proven predictive analytics built-in. VitalConnect promises to leverage extensive expertise in biomedical engineering, data analytics, chip design, and mobile and cloud software to create technology that supports decision-making paradigms that achieve better health and economic outcomes.
